Join us for an incredibly exciting workshop with the talented Sophie Ochera at Loop, who will be visiting us from France! Sophie's colourwork is extraordinary, and very unique. We adore her designs and sense of colour. This is a special opportunity to take a workshop with a master of colour and pattern, to start you on your way to create your own unique Fair Isle knitwear.

Saturday 15th June 11- 5pm (with a break)

Sunday 16th June 11-5pm (with a break)

* please leave your phone number in your order notes in case we need to contact you about the class.

In this workshop, Sophie will guide you through the intricacies of the Fair Isle technique over a day. Whether you're a seasoned knitter looking to tackle something more challenging or have some experience with knitting, this workshop is perfect for you.

Sophie will explain the structure of circular seamless yoked sweaters, and why this structure is ideal for knitting Fair Isle.

You will learn the following techniques:

  • Choosing yarns, colours and patterns.
  • Sampling for circular knitting.
  • Joining in the round.
  • Knitting with 2 colours.
  • Chart-reading.
  • Increasing/decreasing to shape a yoke.
  • Steeking.

By the end of the day, you will have all the information you need to cast on your first circular Fair Isle Sweater (or cardigan).

Level:

This workshop is aimed at knitters who already know how to knit and are looking to move onto something more adventurous.

Materials:

Yarn scraps can be provided, but knitters should bring their own circular needles if possible (2.75-3.5 mm). 40 - 60 cm in length just for swatching.

Sophie will bring her own patterns and inspiration but please feel free to bring along any patterns that you like the look of and would like help getting started on.

By the end of the day, you'll not only have crafted a beautiful swatch but also gained the skills necessary to confidently knit your very own circular yoke sweater. Don't miss this opportunity to enhance your knitting expertise and explore the artistry of Fair Isle with Sophie Ochera!

About Sophie:

Sophie Ochera, a passionate advocate of slow fashion, creates vibrant and timeless knitwear inspired by folk costumes worldwide. Her designs fuse eclectic patterns and motifs, emphasising traditional Fair Isle knitting techniques with unconventional colour combinations and motifs. What began as a venture dressing her own children evolved into a small company born out of a dissatisfaction with mass-produced knitwear. Drawing on a decade-long career in textile design for the fashion industry, Sophie's creations reflect her commitment to warmth, colour, and craftsmanship.
